New Orleans Public Schools to be Discussed at Loyola Forum
Loyola University is hosting a panel discussion Wednesday, Nov. 11, to explore grass-roots lessons from the recent decade of public education. After Hurricane Katrina, the Louisiana Recovery School District took over most of New Orleans' public schools and gradually converted them into independently run charters.
All four participants at the Loyola event have been highly critical of these changes:
Carol Ann MacGregor, Loyola assistant professor of sociology, said the discussion will center on how and whether other cities should take New Orleans as a model.
The event starts at 6 p.m. in Louis J. Roussel Hall in the university's Music and Communications complex, 6363 St. Charles Ave.
